Quizzes are held during the last 15 minutes of class.
Tests use the full 75-minute class period.
Students with recognized accommodations will receive the testing arrangements specified in their accommodation letters.
Rules for quizzes and tests
Unless the instructor explicitly says otherwise:
Quizzes and tests are completed individually.
For an application problem, you will not need to derive the linear system of equations unless the instructor tells you otherwise. When a derivation is not required, the linear system will be provided.
Quizzes and tests are closed book, but you may use up to four letter-sized sheets of paper as memory aids. For the final examination, you may use up to eight letter-sized sheets of paper.
Calculators and all other electronic devices—including phones, smartwatches, earbuds, tablets, and computers—are not allowed. Silence and place them in a bag under your desk or at the front of the room before the quiz or test begins.
Use only materials explicitly permitted for that quiz or test. Do not share materials.
Keep your attention on your own work. Do not communicate with another student, look at or copy another student’s work, make your work available to another student, or give or receive assistance. Direct questions to the instructor.
Date, time, and location will be posted when scheduled by the Registrar. Cumulative, with greater emphasis on material not covered by Test 1 or Test 2.
Examples of question style from other courses
The archived assessments below come from MATH 476, MATH 563, and MATH 565 (Monte Carlo Methods in Finance). They are provided so that you can become familiar with the instructor’s style of questions. They are not MATH 332 practice tests: the topics, level, permitted materials, and course emphasis differ, and archived files may contain errors.
Tip🔎 How to search the archives (PDFs) for keywords
Goal: find which past exams mention a term (e.g., Brownian, Sobol, CLT) inside PDF test and exam files.
The folder assets/tests/archive in the course repository contains subfolders for archived tests from past semesters for MATH 476, MATH 563, and MATH 565. The subfolders are the course numbers, e.g., archive/563 for MATH 563 tests.
Mac (Homebrew) / Linux
One-time setup (install pdfgrep):
brew install pdfgrep
Each time you want to search the archive:
Navigate to the root of your local course repository root, then run:
cd assets/tests
Use one of the following commands to search the archives:
Search all archives in this repo:
pdfgrep-rniH-C2'your term here' archive
Search one specific archive folder:
pdfgrep-rniH-C2'your term here' archive/563
Search multiple archives at once:
pdfgrep-rniH-C2'your term here' archive/476 archive/563
